Peter Stephan Jewellers

Peter Stephan were looking for something different, but whilst not departing too far from the existing brand that was established and recognised.

This presented the challenge of designing a brand that was truly representative of the business and its clientele, whilst also retaining the individuality of the business.

A brand incorporating rings was already established, so the challenge was giving an established brand a new edge, whilst differentiating from the competition that has always used traditional gold/silver colouring.

At this point Raise Creative turned to a bit of history for inspiration:

Whilst tins of baked beans may seem completely irrelevant to jewellery, there is one brand whose packaging stands out. Heinz baked beans have always been packaged in a green/turquoise colour, but the reason why is unknown to many. Why is it that despite many competitive brands opting for the more obvious orange colour of the baked bean, that Heinz had opted for something completely different? More importantly, why is it that this was one of the most successful brands despite it apparently flouting all good design practices?

The answer is a subtle one. The colour used by Heinz is the exact inverse of the colours being used by competitors. Although it may not seem logical, our brains still register this inverse colour and associate it with the more common orange of the baked bean.

Using this same principle of inverse colours, Raise Creative developed a design utlising the inverse colours normally associated with jewellery, such as gold. The blue colours that were chosen allowed a premium feel, normally achieved through the use of gold/sliver colouring to be maintained, along with the ‘ring’ based design that gave the brand of Peter Stephan recognition. This was done whilst also adding a more premium feel derived from the subtle changes made in colouring and design.

Thinking out of the box to solve the problem has allowed Raise Creative to deliver unique and refreshing branding to a recognised and established business that should serve Peter Stephan well for the future.
